Where is Waddesdon Manor?
Waddesdon Manor is in Waddesdon village, near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, postcode HP18 0JH. It is about 45 miles north-west of central London and 19 miles north-east of Oxford. It is not in Oxfordshire, despite being close to the Oxford / Bicester side of the Chilterns.
Do I need to book Waddesdon Manor in advance?
Yes. Waddesdon operates a timed-entry system for the house and, at peak times, for the gardens. Booking online in advance is strongly recommended and is required for Christmas evening openings, which regularly sell out months ahead.
How long should I spend at Waddesdon Manor?
Allow at least 3-4 hours to combine the house, parterre and aviary at a comfortable pace. A full-day visit taking in the woodland walks, both restaurants and the Wine Cellars is easily possible, especially in summer or Christmas.
Are dogs allowed at Waddesdon Manor?
Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere. Well-behaved pet dogs on leads are allowed in the North Fountain area, the woodland walks and the outdoor seating at the Summer House Cafe. They are not permitted in the house, aviary or main formal gardens.
Is Waddesdon Manor good for children?
Yes. Families are well catered for: two adventure playgrounds, an aviary, family trails around the house and dedicated activity days during school holidays. Pair the house with plenty of garden time.
Is there a restaurant at Waddesdon Manor?
There are two. The Manor Restaurant in the stables serves seasonal lunches with wines from the Waddesdon Wine Cellars. The Summer House Cafe near the parterre is more informal and family-friendly.
Can I get married at Waddesdon Manor?
Yes. The Dairy at Waddesdon and the West Hall are licensed for civil ceremonies. Weddings are arranged directly with the estate, not through this guide.
Is Waddesdon Manor accessible for wheelchair users?
The ground floor of the house is fully accessible with a lift to upper floors. Tarmac paths connect the car park with the house and gardens, and a shuttle buggy operates on request.
What is Christmas at Waddesdon Manor?
Every year from mid-November to early January the house is decorated to a different theme, the parterre is transformed by a large-scale light installation and the Christmas Fair fills the stables courtyard. Timed evening tickets are essential.
